Caller said his name was Dennis Peavy and said he was trying to get some work for us.  He said he was working with AT&T and that it was for some work in our area.  He asked for my partner to call him back and left the number 888-291-8836.

I think i was solicited once before, by either the same people, or same scam.

Here is what happened the first time I got a call like this.

I talked with the guy on the phone and he said there was a person who wanted to me with me at my office.  I asked if this was solicitation and I was reassured that this was an opportunity to help us get some work.  The caller was vague but said that when I would meet the person who he wanted me to meet, he would have answers to all my questions.  I work out of my home so I didn't want him to come over to my place, so we arranged a meeting at a public restaurant.  When we finally met we sat down, after I bought him a soda, and I asked him, "I was told on the phone that you were trying to get us jobs, so how does work?"  He looked at me funny and said that I was misinformed, that he had services that his company could offer my company.  I started to get a bit angry, and said that I was told that this was not a solicitation.  He said that there must have been some confusion, and he was sorry, but that he did have some services that I should hear about.

The funny thing about all this is that he never gave me a card, he "flashed" graphs and charts, but I could never really look at them, and the serviced he talked about were exit strategies, and running better books.  How his company has helped small businesses save money and blah blah blah.

What he really pushed for was to get one of his "accountants" to come over and look at my books.  After seeing them, he could give me some ideas on how to save money or what not.  I told him that wasn't going to happen, and he told me the service was free.  "What do you have to loose?" If you don't like what the accountant says, then you pay nothing.

Again, I declined and said that no one but myself or MY accountant looks at the books.  after bantering back and forth we got up to leave, he went to grab my hand and as he was shaking it very hard, looked at me, trying to intimidate me, told me that I should reconsider my position.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention that he looked like the actor Michael Clarke Duncan.  Do a Google search and you find him.  Of course Mr. Duncan is most likely a nice person, this guy, however, looked like him but was very intimidating.  Like he just got out from a long term incarceration.

At this point I almost laughed, I couldn't believe what this guy was trying to do, so I looked at him, with a bit of a serious/crazy stare and said, no I'm not going to reconsider.  And left.

The point to all this wasted bandwidth is this: I believe that they wanted to see my corporate books to get whatever info they could use to open up credit in my company name, and of course ruin the company credit.

About a week later the original caller called me and asked how the meeting went.  I told him I do not do business with fraudulent people.  He said loudly, "Well we were just trying to get you some more work, but if you don't want it", and he hung up the phone.

Don't know if this is the same thing, but remember the old saying, "You don't get something for nothing".  Anyone offering you some opportunity over the phone, and can't give you any infomation in detail is someone I would be cautious of.

    Hope this helps someone...
